GCSE Art & Design
The GCSE Art and Design course offers a variety of disciplines and course programmes tailored to meet the requirements and needs of our pupils.
Unit 1: worth 60% a portfolio of work produced during Year 10 and 11 illustrating skills in a wide range of disciplines. You will explore skills in areas such as ICT, photography, printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture and more. A sketchbook is kept for each project to record your research and development of ideas. There is scope with every project to pursue artist and/or themes of personal interest.
Unit 2: worth 40%. The externally set task takes place in the Spring Term of Year 11.
As part of this course you will curate an exhibition and produce a catalogue to promote the work on view.
If you opt for Art you will need to have:
- A creative and imaginative mind
- A desire to develop a wide range of technical skills
- High levels of personal motivation, including a commitment to producing work in your own time
Art and Design skills would be advantageous in many future careers and are transferable to many college course and post 16 options.
